What You Can Expect

Children in Indoor Playground

Child Therapy

At Clayton Counseling & Associates, our therapists use developmentally appropriate tools—like play therapy, art, animal-assisted interventions, and interactive activities—to help children process emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills.

We offer counseling both in-school and in our welcoming office spaces. Sunny and Meredith specialize in working with children and adolescents, providing compassionate, trauma-informed care tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Family Therapy

Sometimes it’s not just one person who’s struggling—it's the whole family system feeling out of sync.
When relationships feel tense or communication breaks down, having a neutral, compassionate therapist can help bring clarity and connection. Our family therapy begins with a thorough assessment to understand your unique dynamics, then we work together to rebuild trust, improve communication, and realign the family unit toward healing.

Psychotherapy

Our therapists use evidence-based approaches—including CBT, DBT, EMDR, and mindfulness—to support healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, and more. Sessions are available both in-office and via secure Zoom, offering flexible, compassionate care for adolescents and adults alike

Couples Counseling

Most relationship conflict stems from a breakdown in communication—and the good news is, that can be repaired.
Our couples counseling begins with a thorough relationship assessment to understand your strengths, challenges, and patterns. Using the evidence-based Gottman Method, we help partners rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen emotional connection. Whether navigating ongoing conflict, life transitions, or feeling disconnected, we're here to help you reconnect with intention and compassion.

Supervision

I am certified professional counselor supervisor and provide supervision towards LPC. I specialize in LPCs that work in school systems.

Mental Health Evaluations

Mental health evaluations provide a comprehensive look at cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
These assessments typically take 4–6 hours and may include testing for IQ, ADHD, learning differences, and other mental health concerns. Evaluations are often used in school, court, or custody settings, but may also be requested by your physician to inform treatment planning or medication decisions. You’ll receive a detailed report and professional recommendations to support next steps.

EMDR

How EMDR & Trauma Therapy Can Help

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals reprocess traumatic memories and reduce the emotional charge associated with distressing experiences. This approach uses rhythmic bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or handheld tappers, to activate the brain’s natural healing process and calm the nervous system.

Since its first clinical trial in 1989, dozens of studies have demonstrated EMDR’s effectiveness, often producing results more rapidly than traditional talk therapy, particularly for trauma, anxiety, and PTSD.

Short on time? EMDR can also be offered in an intensive format, where multiple sessions are held in close succession, interwoven with breaks for restorative practices like yoga, nature walks, or guided relaxation, to accelerate healing in a focused, supportive setting.
